There are two ways to connect a domain to your Byytes account: hand over the whole domain by changing its nameservers, or keep it registered where it is and just update individual DNS records. Both work, and which one you want depends on whether you plan to manage DNS from Byytes or from your current registrar.
Option 1: change nameservers
This is the simplest option if you want Byytes to manage all of your domain's DNS, including email records, subdomains, and anything else. Log in to whichever registrar you bought the domain from (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, and so on), find the nameserver settings, and replace them with:
ns1.byytes.net
ns2.byytes.net
Save the change. Your registrar still owns the registration, but Byytes now controls where the domain points.
Option 2: update individual DNS records
If you want to keep managing DNS at your current registrar, add or edit these records instead of changing nameservers:
| Type | Name | Value | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | @ | Your server IP (in your account panel) | Points the root domain to Byytes |
| A | www | Your server IP (in your account panel) | Points www to Byytes |
| MX | @ | mail.byytes.net | Routes email to Byytes, if using our email |
| TXT | @ | Provided in your account panel | Domain verification |
Your exact server IP and verification value are shown in your account panel under Domains once your hosting plan is active.
How long propagation takes
DNS changes aren't instant. Once you update nameservers or records, the change has to spread across DNS resolvers worldwide, a process called propagation. In practice:
- Most visitors see the new site within 1 to 4 hours.
- Full global propagation can take up to 24 to 48 hours, depending on your previous DNS provider's TTL settings.
- Email routing (MX records) can lag slightly behind web records, so keep your old email active until you confirm the switch.
Checking whether it's live
You can check propagation status from your account panel's Domains tab, which pings resolvers in several regions. If it's been more than 48 hours and your domain still isn't resolving, double-check that you edited records at the correct registrar, not an old one, and that there isn't a conflicting A record left over from a previous host.
